About Dr.Murphy
Dr Shaun Murphy is a retired Organizational Psychologist and Management Consultant with thirty years of experience as a coach and confidant to senior executives in multinational companies. He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto where he did research on adult psychological development and wrote about the benefits of being a mentor. He later co-authored two books (one a best seller) on the topic of accountability within corporations.
As of his recent retirement he has been engaged by former clients to share his insights and explorations as he, along with the vast cohort of baby boomers, reinvent this evolving and extended stage of life. Shaun sees six key ingredients to a happy retirement: adaptive identity, emotional intelligence, optimized physical wellness, social engagement, planfulness and a sense of meaning. He calls his approach, “Thriving in the Third Stage of Life”. Shaun sees the core task of post-career life as shifting away from what the world thinks of us and more toward the quality of our connections with our dear ones.
In this spirit, Shaun’s proudest accomplishments are: being a wise and humorous grandad, a warm and understanding life partner to his wife, a supportive Dad to his two grown sons. a convivial shipmate to his sailing buddies and a source of inspiration to the people who join him as we explore what lies beyond retirement.
Entering the new phase of life called retirement can be more complicated than it first appears. You may ask yourself where you acquired your ideas about what retirement can or should be.
